BIOSOLIDS

Biosolids are an environmentally friendly and nutrient rich organic fertilizer that results from the wastewater treatment process. This nutrient rich fertilizer was coined "biosolids" because the product undergoes a complete biological process that converts it into a valuable fertilizer for farmers. Biosolids naturally improve the condition of the soil and reduce fertilizer input costs for farmers, all while recycling a valuable resource that we produce.

Many major Universities have studied biosolids for numerous years and proclaimed the same result: Biosolids are beneficial to the environment and communities. In fact, many farms that received land application of biosolids in the past have now developed into thriving subdivisions, schools, neighborhood parks and golf courses.

Farmers across the United States of America and the Globe have utilized organic agricultural fertilizers for centuries. This process is referred to as beneficial re-use recycling and is the most common form of solids management in the wastewater treatment industry.

Biosolids are monitored, regulated and treated throughout the entire recycling process, from production until land application and incorporation. The United States Environmental Protection Agency and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency promotes and regulates the beneficial recycling of biosolids in the State of Illinois.
